What's Special About this Forest?
Plant species that date back to the dinosaur era. Deeply indented fossils of unusual, unstudied creatures and plants. A synergy of yellow birch and hemlock acting in concert to purify the air and water - a life-giving gift to all breathing and spawning beings.
Renowned botanist Diana Beresford-Kroeger recently toured a portion of the 313 acre parcel of land which is being saved from clear cutting by ordinary Nova Scotians through the Sheltering Forests campaign, co-ordinated by the Friends of Redtail Society.
Her report highlights the importance of saving this parcel of forest. Read Diana Beresford-Kroeger’s “Green Alert: A Scientific Report on the Forest of Pictou County, Nova Scotia Canada” at http://www.friendsofredtail.ca/green_alert.html
Then visit http://www.friendsofredtail.ca/sheltering_forests.html and make a donation to bring this ambitious project to completion. $200,000 has already been raised to purchase this land. $50,000 is still needed to complete the purchase. All donations above $20 are tax deductible.
Tickets for David Myles Live @ Your House are also available on line for just $50 at http://www.friendsofredtail.ca/myles.html. Only 250 tickets will be sold. Get yours now, and help save a unique Nova Scotian forest. Posted by: Friends of Redtail Society

Save the Bedford Basin Reef and Tidal Pool
Please sign this petition to save the Bedford basin Reef. We have written a letter to the Waterfront Development Corporation indicating that we would like to see the tidal reef and pool and surrounding area turned into a \\\"Coastal Park\\\"...and Crosby Island, reinstated as a proper island. Instead of more condos and $$ shopping boutiques, lets save the natural habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife. Please take a few moments to sign the petition, doesn\\\'t matter where you are from. If you want to watch the video we have uploaded to Youtube in efforts to raise awareness about the possible loss of this beautiful natural habitat..please visit the link below

Protect Nova Scotia Agricultural Land Petition
We encourage you to sign this online petition and to spread the word through your friends and networks.
In recognition of the fight by citizens of Kings County, Nova Scotia, to protect hundreds of acres of agricultural land from development-purposed amendments to the land use by-law, as brought forward by the Municipality of the County of Kings, and In recognition of the work of the Nova Scotia Agricultural Land Review Committee, Be it resolved, that there is a need to strengthen the Province of Nova Scotia’s interest in agricultural land to ensure such land is respected as a non-renewable resource and given unequivocal protection from development.
With my endorsement I petition the Councillors of the Municipality of the County of Kings and/or the Members of the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia to place a moratorium on any further development of Nova Scotia's agricultural land, in order to ensure the food security of future generations of Nova Scotians. Climate Change and the G20
Climate Change and the G8/G20: Not Business as Usual KAIROS North-South Town Hall Meetings. While Canada welcomes the world’s most powerful leaders to the G20 summit in June, KAIROS and Canadians welcome Southern and Indigenous partners to share with us the real impacts of climate change on their daily lives … and to discuss what a just solution to the climate crisis could look like. Those who are most affected by climate change have no place at the decision-making table. This “Global Town Hall” is a chance for us to come together in a dialogue of real substance to talk about real solutions. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from partners, local experts, and then to engage in dialogue with them and each other as we search for effective solutions to the global injustice of climate change.
** When: Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Time: 7:00pm - 9:30pm Where: St. Andrew's United Church, 6036 Cobourg Road Contact: Bev MacDonald, pharmin@ns.sympatico.ca, 902-228-2603
