Environment Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program has provided financial support to community groups for projects that have measurable, positive impacts on the environment. Funding support can be requested for projects that have an action focus, a community capacity building focus, or a combination of both objectives.

EJLB Foundation
The EJLB Foundation focuses on the protection of the environment principally through (i) the acquisition and preservation of natural areas of ecological significance or of importance to the urban fabric; and (ii) environmental scientific research. Environmental Damages Fund
The Environmental Damages Fund (EDF), is as a special holding or trust account to manage funds received as compensation for environmental damage. On behalf of the Government of Canada, Environment Canada is the custodian and administrator of the Fund. Each award directed into the EDF is accounted for separately so that monies will only be used to fund projects in the watershed where the offense has occurred. The EDF prefers to fund projects that demonstrate community support and involvement through partnerships.

Evergreen Common Grounds Funding
Evergreen funding is available for community groups across Canada working on urban naturalization and community gardening projects on public lands. Our grants support the restoration and stewardship of urban habitats such as woodlands, meadows and wetlands. Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment Action Plan Grants Program
Through its Action Plan Grants Program, the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment (GOMC) awards grants to non-governmental organizations, municipalities, and schools throughout the Gulf of Maine watershed. The purpose of the grants is to further the goals of the Council while assisting worthy applicants with their own programs to the benefit of the inhabitants of the Gulf of Maine region. The Council invites eligible organizations to apply for funding made available through a U.S. Congressional appropriation administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Eligibility: Non-governmental organizations (e.g., community associations, cooperatives, civic groups), municipalities, and schools are eligible to apply. The applicants and the proposed project must be located within the Gulf of Maine watershed. The Gulf of Maine watershed extends from southern Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to Cape Sable, Nova Scotia, and includes all lands that are part of coastal watersheds. Halifax Regional Municipality Community Grants
The Community Grants Program provides annual cash grants to non-profit community groups. These awards support community volunteers and non-profit groups in the arts, social, cultural, recreational, heritage and environment programs. Honda Canada Foundation
The Foundation accepts grant applications from registered charities in Canada whose focus is on programs involving education, the environment and engineering. The Foundation uses these three areas as guiding principles in its charitable focus on the belief that a healthy understanding of each area will help both individuals and communities flourish. The Honda Canada Foundation's mission is to enhance the social wellbeing of Canadian communities through responsible investment in organizations that share their vision and values and focus on youth in the community. Mountain Equipment Coop Grants Program
MEC offers grants in the following categories: Land Acquisition, Capacity Building, Strengthen conservation organizations.
Research, Advocacy and Education, Access, and Urban Sustainability. MEC also offers Grassroots Product Donations to enable conservation/access groups to raise funds or reward volunteers. Application Deadlines are twice a year: March 10 and September 10. Land Acquisition letters of intent are due by September 10; full applications are due March 10. Due to the high volume of applicants, late submissions will not be reviewed.

Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps

The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps (NSYCC) is a special program offered by the Nova Scotia Environment and Labour (NSEL). The NSYCC is designed to preserve and enhance the environment, while providing local youth with work and skill development opportunities in the environmental field. Each year, the NSYCC partners with local community organizations to provide summer work experience for young Nova Scotians who wish to work within their community. These summer projects promote environmental stewardship and leadership experience for local youth. The NSYCC works to promote awareness, conservation, and stewardship of Nova Scotia’s environment by encouraging Nova Scotian organizations to work with youth (age 17-24) in taking action on issues of local environmental concern. The NSYCC administers all Human Resource functions including recruitment, hiring, payroll, Workers Compensation, etc. Successful Project Proposals will demonstrate how the summer work experience will provide young Nova Scotians with leadership opportunities and a chance to work towards environmental stewardship.For more information please contact the NSYCC Program Coordinator at 902-424-4924 or by email at . Resource Recovery Fund Board Community Grants
RRFB Nova Scotia funds municipalities, businesses and community projects that reduce waste and divert materials from the landfill. Municipalities can receive funding for Municipal Approved Programs that assist in diverting materials from the landfill through waste reduction, reuse, recycling or composting initiatives.

Shell Environmental Fund
The Shell Environmental Fund (SEF) provides financial support for grass-roots, action-oriented projects that improve and protect the Canadian environment. You can receive a grant only once for any single project. The SEF provides up to $5,000 per project.

Sustainability Network
The Sustainability Network provides modest financial assistance to environmental NGOs for specific capacity challenges. They currently offer their training bursary program for environmental nonprofit organizations based in Ontario or Atlantic Canada. Sustainable Development Technology Canada
Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) funds technologies that address climate change, clean air and – recently – clean water and clean soil issues. Prospective clean water technologies will look to optimize Canada’s water and waste-water infrastructure, improve water conservation, update existing diagnostic tools and methods, and address public concern over drinking water safety. World Wild Life Fund Endangered Species Recovery Fund
The Endangered Species Recovery Fund (ESRF) is a collaborative effort led by Environment Canada and WWF to save Canada's wildlife at risk. The ESRF sponsors high-priority conservation projects to assist the recovery and protection of endangered Canadian wildlife and their natural habitats.
