2011: Full Circle: Connecting for a Sustainable Future.
For the 20th Anniversary of NSEN we gathered in Tatamagouche. The place were it all started with Ishbe Munroe in 1991.

2010: Woods, Water Work. Getting out what we put in!
The NSEN co-hosted the Annual Gathering with the Sierra Club of Canada Atlantic Chapter and the Pictou County Watershed Coalition.
We gathered in Scotsburn, Pictou County, Nova Scotia at the beautiful
Stonehame Lodge, on Friday, September 10 to Sunday, September 12, to learn
about environmental issues, rejuvenate ourselves and prepare for another
year of organizing around environmental issues in Nova Scotia!
Some highlights on the agenda included a Toxic Tour of Boat Harbour and area- Ron Kelly with Pictou County
Watershed Coalition and Peter Boyle lead the tour; Keynote address from Dr. Daniel Paul author of "We Are Not the
Savages". Dr. Paul spoke extensively on the history and struggle of Boat Harbour and Pictou Landing First Nations;
Panel on Sustainable Forestry with Billy MacDonald of Friends of
Red Tail, Gary Schneider of ECOPEI MacPhail Woods and Matt Miller of EAC; Workshops on fundraising and youth action & engagement; and
NSEN Caucus meetings- Cathy Conrad with Saint Mary's University Community Based Environmental Monitoring Network will talk about Citizen
Science and her experiences in The Gambia.
The Gathering garnered a lot of media locally in New Glasgow and Pictou papers and in the Chronicle Herald. For more information on

2009: Making the Links: The Environment & Health
Annual Gathering was Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27 at the
beautiful sustainable woodlot and retreat Windhorse Farm in New Germany. Key
Note speakers were Dr. John O'Connor, doctor and courageous Alberta Tars
Sands whistleblower; Dr. Sherman Boates, Wildlife Manager with the
Department of Natural Resources, on the UN Biodiversity International Year
and Decade; Sheila Cole, Co-Chair of the National Health Caucus and member
of the Environmental Health Association of Nova Scotia; Chris Benjamin,
Journalist for The Coast's Sustainable City Column; Dr. Charlene Morton, UBC
Professor on Music, Critical Thinking & Sustainability Education; Dr. John
Brazner, water ecologist on the provincial wetlands strategy; and Sunday
Luncheon Key note speaker was the Honourable Minister of Environment
Sterling Belliveau. At our gathering, we presented a framed picture of the
members and community of Friends of Nature to Rudy Haase. We watched the
films: Downstream and The Edible Schoolyard. Our caucuses: water &
watershed, biosolids & wastewater, environmental education & SENSE, and law
& policy had meetings at our gathering. We enjoyed delicious catered food,
swimming, canoeing, garden tour and forest walks. We would like to thank the
Department of Environment and Mountain Equipment Coop for their support of
our event.

2008: Working Together to Create a Sustainable Future
The Nova Scotia Environmental Network had its Annual Gathering to bring environmentalists together
to share ideas and resources on our most pressing environmental challenges and to celebrate our successes.
As usual, it was a feast for both body and mind.

2007: Landscapes of the Future: Sustainable Options for Nova Scotia
We had a fantastic weekend of learning and celebrating in Avondale. We listened to great
speakers, connected with other active citizens, feasted on local food, and danced at

2003: “Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities”

WORKSHOPS: mapping the movement on forestry issues in NS, the theory and
practice of restoring the natural Acadian forest, getting to know the
endangered Acadian forest, direct links between healthy forests and human
health
2002: Climate Change (guest speaker Guy Dauncey)

WORKSHOPS: Youth initiatives, health & environment, food & sustainable
agriculture, caucus presentations
