Fundy Tidal Power Workshop for the Environmental Community on Wednesday, March 19

NSEN will be hosting a full-day workshop on the Fundy Tidal Energy Stakeholder Environmental Assessment (SEA)
on Wednesday, March 19 from 8:30-4:30 PM at the Nova Scotia Public Archives, 6016 University Avenue, in Halifax.
This will be the only opportunity for the environmental community to learn about and provide input into the
Fundy Tidal Energy project.
Workshop presenters include representatives from the Offshore Energy Environmental Research (OEER) SEA Stakeholder
Roundtable. The workshop will be jointly facilitated by Lisa Mitchell, environmental lawyer and consultant. The
input from this workshop will be submitted to the provincial government as part of the final report on the Fundy
Tidal SEA that is due in April. We can provide travel subsidies to assist people in attending the workshop. There
will be delicious catering from Little Foot Yurts. The Background Report on the Fundy Tidal Energy SEA and more
information about the Fundy Tidal Energy Project and Stakeholder Environmental Assessment, is here.

All Party Forum on Environment and Health - June 8, 2006
The general public is invited to attend an All Party Forum on Environment
and Health moderated by CTV?s Rick Grant on Thursday, June 8 from 7-9pm
at the Ondaatje Theatre in the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences
Building at Dalhousie University, 6135 University Ave. in Halifax. Participating
candidates will address and debate critical environmental and health issues
and to tell Nova Scotians what their party will do if elected. Audience
members will also be able to ask the candidates questions. Confirmed participating
candidates currently include: Michele Raymond (New Democratic Party) ,
Francis MacKenzie (Liberal Party), and Amanda Myers (Green Party). The
forum is organized by the Nova Scotia Environmental Network.

Roundtable for Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations
NSEN is hosting a Roundtable for Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations
on Monday, February 20 from 10:00-3:00 pm at the Canadian Centre for Ethics
in Public Affairs boardroom, 630 Francklyn St. (on the Atlantic School
of Theology Campus near Saint Mary's University). This meeting will include
presentations about federal and provincial environmental policy developments
that affect ENGOs, funding opportunities, an update from the Canadian
Environmental Network and the Climate Change Centre, a debrief on the
All-Terrain Vehicle campaign and presentation on the Nova Scotia Public
Lands Campaign, upcoming events, a chance to share information and resources,
and an opportunity to strategize about the environmental movement in NS.
This meeting is being held in advance of a meeting with the NS Minister
of Environment & Labour at the end of February. This roundtable is
a free event. Lunch will be provided. There are some travel subsidies
available. As there is limited space, the roundtable can only accommodate
staff and volunteers of ENGOs. The storm date is Monday, February 20.

Toward Sustainable Communities: An Introduction to The Natural
Step (TNS)

A presentation on The Natural Step (TNS) Framework, a methodology for
planning that provides an elegant, rigorous, science-based understanding
of sustainability together with a tested planning approach to translate
that understanding into practice. Participants will learn about the principles
of the TNS Framework and how it is being applied in communities and businesses
in Canada and around the world. Organizations using the TNS Framework
include: the Regional Municipality of Whistler, the Town of Canmore, Interface
Inc., and more than 60 municipalities in Sweden. Come and learn about
this important tool for sustainability - we all can play a role for a
sustainable future. A not-to-miss presentation!
Speaker: Chad Park, B.Comm., M.Sc. - As Sustainability Advisor with
TNS Canada, Chad works with organizations and communities to support the
use of the TNS Framework as a tool for sustainability planning and education.
A past National President of AIESEC Canada, his background also includes
sustainability-related experience with Mountain Equipment Co-op, the Canadian
Eco-Industrial Network, Sustainability Asset Management, the ZERI Foundation,
